Anger

Teachings of Presidents of the Church: George Albert Smith (2011), 225, 226, 228
“unkind things are not usually said under the inspiration of the Lord. The Spirit of the Lord is a spirit of kindness; it is a spirit of patience; it is a spirit of charity and love and forbearance and long suffering. …

“… But if we have the spirit of fault finding … in a destructive manner, that never comes as a result of the companionship of the Spirit of our Heavenly Father and is always harmful.

“… Kindness is the power that God has given us to unlock hard hearts and subdue stubborn souls.”

President Dieter F Uchtdorf, O How Great the Plan of Our God!, October 2016 General Conference
Let us remember, the most important work we do in our families is through the power of the Holy Ghost. Whenever we raise our voices in anger, the Spirit leaves our companionships and families. When we speak in love, the Spirit can be with us. Let us remember that our children and grandchildren measure our love by how much devoted time we give them. Above all, don’t lose patience and don’t give up!

James 1:20
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Baptism

3 Nephi 11:28-30
28 And according as I have commanded you thus shall ye baptize. And there shall be no disputations among you, as there have hitherto been; neither shall there be disputations among you concerning the points of my doctrine, as there have hitherto been.
29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.
30 Behold, this is not my doctrine, to stir up the hearts of men with anger, one against another; but this is my doctrine, that such things should be done away.

Teachings OF PRESIDENTS OF THE CHURCH: LORENZO SNOW, Chapter 2
"Some deem it wrong to number baptism among the essential principles ordained of God, to be attended to in obtaining remission of sins. In reply, we say that the Saviour and apostles have done so before us; therefore, we feel obligated to follow their example. … Baptism … doth now remove our souls from sins and pollutions, through faith on the great atonement. …
"It is plainly manifest that external works must be attended to, as well as faith and repentance, in order to receive Gospel privileges."
...
"It says of John [the Baptist] that he baptized at Aenon, because there was much water [see John 3:23]; then if sprinkling had been the mode, we can hardly suppose he would have gone to Aenon, because there was much water at that place, for a very little water, indeed, would have sprinkled all Judea, which he could have obtained without having performed a journey to Aenon. We are told, also, that he baptized in Jordan, and that after the ordinance was administered to our Saviour, he came up out of the water, expressly signifying that he had been down into the water, in order that the ordinance might be administered in a proper manner [seeMatthew 3:16]. Again; it speaks of the Eunuch, that he went down into the water with Philip, and then came up out of the water [see Acts 8:26–38]; now it must be acknowledged by every one who makes any pretensions to reason and consistency that had sprinkling a little water on the forehead answered the purpose, then those persons never would have gone into the water to have received the ordinance. Paul, in writing to the saints, gives us a plain testimony in favour of immersion. … That apostle states there that the saints had been buried with Christ by baptism [see Romans 6:4Colossians 2:12].
"It is plainly evident they could not have been buried by baptism without having been entirely overwhelmed or covered in water. An object cannot be said to be buried when any portion of it remains uncovered; so, also, a man is not buried in water by baptism unless his whole person is put into the watery element. This explanation of the apostle upon the mode of baptism very beautifully corresponds with that given by our Saviour, Except ye be born of water, etc. To be born of a thing signifies being placed in that thing; and emerging, or coming forth from it, to be born of water, must also signify being placed in the womb of waters and being brought forth again."

Acts 2:38

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Teachings of Presidents of the Church:Lorenzo Snow, Chapter 2

Mormon 3:2
2 And it came to pass that the Lord did say unto me: Cry unto this people—Repent ye, and come unto me, and be ye baptized, and build up again my church, and ye shall be spared.

Matthew 3:13-15
13 ¶ Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be abaptized of him.

14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, aSuffer it to be so now: for thus it bbecometh us to cfulfil all drighteousness. Then he suffered him.

If it was necessary for Jesus to be baptized to fulfill all righteousness, then why would it not be necessary for us? What was the purpose if not to show us the way?

Mark 16:16
16 He that abelieveth and is bbaptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be cdamned.

It says he that believes AND is baptized shall be saved. Two points. One, you must do something as well as believe to be saved. Two, one of those things is baptism.

John 3:5
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be aborn of bwater and of the cSpirit, he cannot denter into the kingdom of God.

One can not enter into the kingdom unless they do something, which is be baptized.

Matthew 7:13-14
13 ¶ Enter ye in at the astrait bgate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to cdestruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because astrait is the bgate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto clife, and few there be that find it.

The way is narrow. Yet we have so many churches having their own doctrines.

Luke 7:29-30
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is aleast in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

29 And all the people that heard him, and the apublicans, justified God, being baptized with the bbaptism of John.

30 But the Pharisees and lawyers arejected the counsel of God bagainst themselves, being not cbaptized of him.

The counsel of God was to be baptized with the baptism of John the baptist. John baptized with water and by immersion.

Mosiah 18:8-10
 8 And it came to pass that he said unto them: Behold, here are the waters of Mormon (for thus were they called) and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;
9 Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—
10 Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you?

Tad R Callister, Of the Presidency of the Seventy, The Book of Mormon—a Book from God, General Conference October 2011

"There exist various modes of baptisms in the world today even though the Bible tells us the manner in which the Savior, our great Exemplar, was baptized: '[He] went up straightway out of the water' (Matthew 3:16). Could He have come up out of the water unless He first went down into the water? Lest there be any discord on this subject, the Book of Mormon dispels it with this straightforward statement of doctrine as to the proper manner of baptism: 'And then shall ye immerse them in the water' (3 Nephi 11:26)."

Satan's Plan

Elder Cornish J. Devn Cornish, Am I Good Enough? Will I Make It?, October 2016 General Conference
“...we must stop comparing ourselves to others. We torture ourselves needlessly by competing and comparing. We falsely judge our self-worth by the things we do or don’t have and by the opinions of others. If we must compare, let us compare how we were in the past to how we are today—and even to how we want to be in the future. The only opinion of us that matters is what our Heavenly Father thinks of us. Please sincerely ask Him what He thinks of you. He will love and correct but never discourage us; that is Satan’s trick.”

Richard G Scott, Make the Exercise of Faith Your First Priority, October 2014 General Conference
The more we develop these habits [of prayer, scripture study, family home evening, and temple attendance], the more anxious is Satan to harm us but the less is his ability to do so.

Adrián Ochoa, Aaronic Priesthood: Arise and Use the Power of God, April 2012 General Conference “Yes, Aaronic Priesthood holders, we are at war. And in this war, the best way to defend against evil is to actively promote righteousness. You cannot listen to foul words and pretend you don’t hear. You cannot watch, alone or with others, images you know are filthy and pretend you don’t see. You cannot touch any unclean thing and pretend it’s no big deal. You cannot be passive when Satan seeks to destroy that which is wholesome and pure.”

Elder L. Tom Perry, The Sabbath and the Sacrament

"Brothers and sisters, in the latter days the adversary succeeds when we relax our commitment to the Savior, ignore His teachings in the New Testament and other scripture, and cease to follow Him."

3 Nephi 11:29

29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.

Contention

President Thomas S Monson, As We Close This Conference, General Conference April 2012
If there are disagreements or contentions among you, I urge you to settle them now.“

4 Nephi 1:15
15 And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people.

Dean C. Jessee, comp-ed., The Personal Writings of Joseph Smith (Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1984), 90.
Joseph Smith instructed some brethren that were debating a certain doctrine. He talked of them having "too much zeal for mastery" and that they should not focus on dominating each other, but "they should handle sacred things very sacredly, and with due deference to the opinions of others, and with an eye single to the glory of God."

President Henry B. Eyring, "Our Hearts Knit as One", October 2008 General Conference
"A second principle to guide our progress to become one is to be humble. Pride is the great enemy of unity. You have seen and felt its terrible effects. Just days ago I watched as two people—good people—began with a mild disagreement. It started as a discussion of what was true but became a contest about who was right. Voices become gradually louder. Faces became a little more flushed. Instead of talking about the issue, people began talking about themselves, giving evidence why their view, given their great ability and background, was more likely to be right."

Titus 3:9
9 But avoid afoolish questions, and genealogies, and bcontentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

How often do we in our classes spin on things that don't matter or insert our own ideas as doctrine.

Mosiah 2:32
32 But, O my people, beware lest there shall arise acontentions among you, and ye blist to cobey the evil spirit, which was spoken of by my father Mosiah.

Mosiah 18:21
21 And he commanded them that there should be no acontention one with another, but that they should look forward with bone eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts cknit together in unity and in love one towards another.

3 Nephi 18:34
34 And I give you these commandments because of the disputations which have been among you. And blessed are ye if ye have ano disputations among you.

Do we think when reading this scripture that it would be nice and we would be blessed if we did not have disputations among us, but it is too bad that people dispute with us? Or rather do we think of ways that we can dispute less in our lives?

2 Timothy 24-25
24 And the servant of the Lord must not astrive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to bteach, patient,

25 In ameekness binstructing those that oppose themselves; if God cperadventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

There will be those that want to Bible bash or ask inflammatory questions, but we are to respond with peace, kindness, patience, and meekness.

James 1:19-20
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to aspeak, bslow to cwrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Our society has a culture of quick tongues, but James 1:19-20 tells us we should be different.

Doctrine and Covenants 31:9
9 Be apatient in bafflictions, crevile not against those that revile. Govern your dhouse in meekness, and be esteadfast.

Doctrine and Covenants 38:41
41 And let your apreaching be the bwarning voice, every man to his neighbor, in mildness and in cmeekness.

Doctrine and Covenants 60:14
14 And after thou hast come up unto the land of Zion, and hast proclaimed my word, thou shalt speedily return, proclaiming my word among the congregations of the wicked, not in ahaste, neither in bwrath nor with cstrife.

Missionary Work

David A Bednar, Come and See, October 2014 General Conference
“Latter-day Saints take seriously this responsibility to teach all people in all nations about the Lord Jesus Christ and His restored gospel. We believe the same Church founded by the Savior anciently has been reestablished on the earth by Him in the latter days. The doctrine, principles, priesthood authority, ordinances, and covenants of His gospel are found today in His Church.”

Jeremiah 16:15-16
15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
16 ¶Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

Elder David F Evans, Was It Worth It?, General Conference April 2012

"The work of naturally and normally sharing the gospel with those we care about and love will be the work and joy of our lives."

Elder Bruce R McConkie, Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, 3 vols. [1966–73], 3:563–64
“The elders of Israel are now issuing the invitations to the marriage supper of the Lord; those who believe and obey the gospel thereby accept the invitation and shall sit in due course … at the marriage feast”

Luke 22:32
32But I have aprayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art bconvertedcstrengthen thy brethren.

John 21:15-17

15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, aFeed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, aFeed my bsheep.

Doctrine and Covenants 88:81

81 Behold, I sent you out to atestify and warn the people, and it becometh every man who hath been warned to bwarn his neighbor.
